A Guide to Getting Your Music Reviewed on All About Jazz
Listen to our audio summary and learn how to get your music reviewed.
This guide is designed for jazz musicians, publicists, and record label reps who submit music for review on All About Jazz. We recognize that an album review here holds significant value, and we genuinely appreciate the artistry and effort behind every submission. By following the steps outlined below, you'll improve your chances of having your music thoughtfully considered and reviewed.
Establishing your presence and uploading your album info

Album information can be uploaded in one of two ways:
- Clicking “Upload Album Information” from the "Events / Photos / Albums" dropdown menu (see right) from your musician's page.
- Clicking the "Discography" tab on your musician update form and clicking the "ADD ALBUM" button. You'll also find an "ADD ALBUM" button on your discography page.
Once your album is uploaded, consider these additional opportunities:
- Submit a track for Song of the Day consideration (free).
- Submit your album's liner notes which we’ll publish as an article (free).
- If you work with a publicist, submit the album’s press release to our news section ($20—learn more here).
- Take advantage of our Take Five Q&A service, a self-directed interview that we'll publish for just $50.
Why it's important
Creating pages on All About Jazz have undeniable value—they are highly relevant and will achieve optimal placement on a Google search (we explain why here). We encourage you to make full use of our free offerings and consider our affordable paid options. While establishing your presence and uploading your album information is not a requirement for a review, it significantly increases your chances. A well-maintained musician page—with an updated biography, album details, links, videos, photos, influencers, and tags—saves our staff time in evaluating you and your music. A complete and current page will serve you well; an incomplete one will not.
Contacting our Staff About An Album Review
The writers at All About Jazz are dedicated volunteers who are often busy and selective about the music they review. To improve your chances of finding the right writer, we recommend using our staff style preference filter. Once you identify a suitable writer, reach out to them through our internal messaging feature—but limit it to one at a time. While our staff is extensive, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with them. You can quickly explore their preferences and past articles on our Staff Directory page.
Other considerations
While payola unquestionably exists in our industry, All About Jazz operates with complete integrity—no transactions take place, meaning you do not pay for reviews in any form. You can read more about our position here. All About Jazz is more than just an album review website. We offer a comprehensive musician database, a local events calendar covering over 300 cities worldwide, a news distribution service, two apps, a messaging platform, a jazz album repository, and a central hub for jazz radio and podcasts—among many other resources. While publishing album reviews is part of what we do, it’s just one aspect of our broader mission.
